Hello all!
April is always such a transitional time; we are solidly into spring but also starting to see a few glimpses of summer. As the time of year when so many things return to life, it feels like a lovely time to launch this Substack (we are now just a few weeks in), and begin work in earnest on all manner of new things we want to share with you! This post is the first of our monthly roundups of things we’ve been enjoying, whether that’s recipes, music, tv, yarns — all is fair game. So let’s go!
Firstly we are very excited about Sophia Cai’s new book Loop, Hook, Loom which is out this month in the UK and features 37 artists working with textiles. We were lucky enough to publish an article by Sophia in Issue 31 of PPQ which you can still read on our blog.
In food related news, this month Meghan has been making these cacio e pepe butter beans on repeat, and Lydia has been perfecting potato wedges after discovering that this fancy Field Blends seasoning makes them extra delicious without much effort.
Clothes-wise, Meghan loves this (size inclusive!!) top which reminds her of this knitting pattern by her Austin-based pal…
…which in turn reminded Lydia of Moonbow sweater from the Pom Pom Moon issue.
On the theme of textiles Lydia is very taken with these socks by Millicent Sanders which she spotted at Atwin in Norwich. The colour combinations are glorious and reminded her just how much she loves a marl.
Lydia has also been delving into the music of Jean Ritchie, having always been a fan she recently came across this song, and was completely blown away.
Audio-wise Meghan recommends this podcast ep on inspiration vs plagiarism, a discussion between her old pal, illustrator Helen Stephens, and Martin Salisbury (Professor of Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art).
Lydia is binge reading everything Samantha Harvey has written after loving Orbital. So far Dear Thief is her favourite of Harvey’s other work, but all have been wonderful.
And lastly Meghan is wowed by this very unique antique quilt in a symphony of pastels, and especially loves the ad hoc blues.
And that’s all from us for today! We are planning all sorts of things for you soon, including plenty of yarny stuff, and we will be opening the chat for paid subscribers here on Substack very soon as well!
We hope you have a lovely weekend all!
xx Lydia + Meghan
P.S. Tell us what you’ve been enjoying this month too! We’d love to know.
