Hello pals,
We hope May has been treating you well. We’ve been having a lot of fun with our latest release (Scrappy Checkers) and with our WIPs. Meghan has been working on something very exciting (with her trusty supervisor ever present) 👀
But we have also been reading, listening, and wearing things that we want to share with you all. So without further ado… here are some things we like!
Meghan has been listening to Meryl Streep reading Tom Lake by Ann Patchett, and highly recommends it. The book is told in the first person and Meryl is perfect as a mother of grown up daughters, telling them the story of when she worked as an actress in her youth.
Lydia is reading Katabasis by RF Kuang and loving it so far. It’s a fantasy novel featuring academics who have to travel to hell together… what’s not to love!? Lydia loved Babel by the same author (who is a translator as well as a fiction writer) and particularly enjoys the bits of linguistics that she sneaks in to her stories.
Meghan is also (rightly) obsessed with this incredible choreography (as if you haven’t seen it already) by Damien JALET
His account is worth a follow for all sorts of innovative and playful dance:
In useful textile related news, Lydia is the proud owner of (a custom) one of these bags by Phaedra Clothing, and highly recommends it.
Meghan recommends this incredible little video which she can’t get out of her mind:
And on the subject of music, Lydia can’t stop listening to Lisa O’Neill’s album Heard a Long Gone Song.
If you like this as much as Lydia does then she also recommends Lankum’s version of Hares On the Mountain, with singer Radie Peat giving an incredibly forceful but pared back performance.
On the subject of singing, Lydia sang and told a story a few months ago at a Norwich based event called True Stories Live, and the recording is online if you fancied giving it a listen.
Lastly, Crafts Council are hosting a lunchtime online talk with Sophia Cai, author of the new publication Loop, Hook, Loom, the very book we were telling you about last month! We think it’ll be well worth joining! (Former Pomcast host Sophie Heathscott herself is the organiser of this event, so we know it’ll be extra good.)
And that’s everything for now. These posts are so fun to write because it’s always a joy to share things you love! As ever if you have something you’d like to share with us please do!
xxx Lydia + Meghan

I just finished reading Beasts of the Sea by Iida Turpeinen and oh my goodness, I loved it! Such a beautiful book on how humans can be so destructive, but also spend their lives trying to restore what was once lost.
Ha! What a coincidence. I just finished reading Katabasis myself! Pretty cool read.
